Here we go again...#goals?

We are winding down the year and of course there’s the usual buzz of “goals,” “new year, new me,” talk LOL! Quite frankly, I am not a resolution or a vision board person…I don’t know…maybe it’s giving it that title that makes it feel cliché or intangible. What I do like though is to zone in on key themes for my year. To me, keeping it simple increases the probability of it ACTUALLY happening LOL!

Seriously though, I’ve been doing this for a couple of years and I wanted to share how I do this without overwhelming myself. With that being said, please know that I haven’t completely thought out my 2019. For one, if you want God to lead you in your plans then you can’t plan out everything to a tee.

“A man’s steps are established by the Lord, and He takes pleasure in his way.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭37:23‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

“A man’s mind plans his way [as he journeys through life], But the LORD directs his steps and establishes them.”

‭‭PROVERBS‬ ‭16:9‬ ‭AMP‬‬

The goal is general with very few specifics. So anywho, here goes my Core Key Themes for 2019:

  1. I divide my life into four primary areas…FAITH, PERSONAL, FAMILY, PROFESSIONAL

  2. After listing my primary areas focus, I think of what is the common thing or things I would like to accomplish in these areas. Last year was my ‘Year of Yes.’ 2018 was all about saying yes to things that scared me or stretched me. I wanted to be out of my comfort zone. Comfort prevents growth. This year I have three words: DISCIPLINE, ENGAGE, & FOCUS. I desire more DISCIPLINE in all areas of my life which will require better FOCUS & in order to do this, I must ENGAGE more with the people & environments I am around.

  3. Each primary area has goals/tasks that I want to accomplish or grow in. I am specific & I hit main points. For example, in the personal area I will run a half marathon in the spring of 2019. It’s that specific.

  4. I purposely try to keep each area to 3-4 tasks. I also write it down (I prefer a chart/diagram because I’m a visual person).

  5. Lastly, I pray over it asking God for the desires of my heart & for me to be surrendered to his plans over mine. In my experience, God’s plans are far better than mine but I’m still hard-headed so I have to constantly set my mind on things above LOL!

Well guys, that’s pretty much it. Again, simplicity is key! I hope this helps you as we all chase after a more full & abundant life!
